Closing
Your payment sits with escrow until the domain lands on your side.
Once a figure is agreed, a purchase follows the same short sequence every time. No money reaches us before the name has arrived.
The sequence
-
Agreement in writing
The domain, the figure and the name of the buying company, confirmed by email from both sides.
-
Escrow opened
A licensed escrow service opens the transaction and sends you its own payment instructions. You pay the escrow service, never Basis Advisors directly.
-
Transfer started
When escrow confirms the funds, we unlock the name and either push it to your registrar account or send the authorisation code for you to pull it in.
-
You confirm
You tell escrow the name is showing in your account. Only then are funds released to us.
-
Handover check
A short email from Willa to make sure the lock, renewal date and DNS are how your team wants them.
What you will need
- An account at any registrar you like, or with the one your IT team already uses.
- A person who can approve the payment and one who can log in to the registrar (often the same person).
- The legal name of the buying entity, for the escrow record.
Time and cost
Most purchases complete between a few business days and two weeks after agreement; transfers between registrars are the slowest part. The escrow fee is shown by the escrow service before you pay and is settled as agreed in writing. Renewals after the transfer are billed by your own registrar.
If a transfer cannot be completed, escrow returns the payment.
